Bach Flower Remedies
This simple although very powerful system of treatment, in the sense of bringing back the well-being and health, was developed by Dr. Edward Bach in the 1930s. He believed that Nature contains a cure for any discomfort we experience. And so it was, he developed the system of 38 flower remedies suitable for healing different kinds of emotion, which also contribute for improvement of mental and physical state of being.
It is based on interconnectedness of body, mind and emotions and their effect on overall health conditions, including physical illness. He came to conclusion that “The mind being the most delicate and sensitive part of the body, shows the onset and the course of disease much more definitely than the body, so that the outlook of mind is chosen as the guide as to which remedy or remedies are necessary. In illness there is a change of mood from that in ordinary life, and those who are observant can notice this change often before and sometimes long before, the disease appears, and by treatment can prevent the malady ever appearing. When illness has been present for some time, again the mood of the sufferer will guide to the correct remedy.“ (Dr. Edward Bach, The Twelfth Healers, 1941 edition)
The point is that by following and analysis of the state of mind and emotions, as well as the perspective of the world of an individual as symptoms that appear on the surface, we can determine the remedies needed to be taken and gently support the individual through the process of recovery. A very important point is that the recovery or healing doesn’t only mean absence of illness. It also has a very deep effect on understanding the causes of suffering and rediscovery of our true nature, which has a crucial role in being healthy and balanced.
The 38 Bach Flower Remedies are prepared from the flowers of wild plants and trees. Prepared in a specific way, they represent vibrational essences and they function on a very subtle level. In treating, there is no generalization, every individual is observed as a separate, unique case, no matter if there is a common symptom or illness. Treating the individual as a whole enables the practitioner to discover the innermost causes and core reasons for the distress and be quite successful in opening the way to health.
The 38 remedies are divided into 7 major groups. Every group is related to certain emotion, so here they are:
· for Fear
· for Uncertainty
· for Insufficient Interest in Present Circumstances
· for Loneliness
· for Those Over-sensitive to Influences and Ideas
· for Despondency and Despair
· for Over-care for Welfare of Others
Remedies can be taken preventively to stop the developing of further health issues or in the actual case of disturbance (stress, anxiety, shock etc.) or illness. They are natural and safe, have no side-effects and they are not addictive, which makes them suitable for all, including plants or animals. They can be taken on their own or in conjunction with other different medical or alternative methods of treatment.
Learning about Bach Flower Remedies doesn’t require any previous knowledge and anyone can use them; Dr. Edward Bach had a dream to have a simple, easy and free-to-use system of healing in every household, so people could help themselves.
At the end of this introduction, we invite you to read another short quote of Dr.Edward Bach, as his wisdom might make us think, it might open new windows of understanding and also it might give us courage to take a peek through the doors of the self and make an effort to change for better…
“As the Herbs heal our fears, our anxieties, our worries, our faults and our failings, it is these we must seek, and then the disease, no matter what it is, will leave us. …Thus, behind all disease lie our fears, our anxieties, our greed, our likes and dislikes. Let us seek these out and heal them, and with the healing of them will go the disease from which we suffer. … In treating cases with these remedies no notice is taken of the nature of the disease. The individual is treated, and as he becomes well the disease goes, having been cast off by the increase of health. All know that the same disease may have different effects on different people; it is the effects that need treatment, because they guide to the real cause."
